ICTS Technology Education Exam

The Illinois State Board of Education requires prospective teachers to pass the ICTS Technology Education Test in order to be certified to teach technology education. The exam has 125 multiple-choice questions and is a criterion-referenced, objective-based test that follows the guidelines of the Content Area Standards for Educators. There are three important subareas in the ICTS Technology Education Test: History and Nature of Technology; Design, Development, Management, and Assessment; and Information, Energy, and Physical Technologies.

Twelve objective statements are included in the subareas of the test. The objective statements are broad terms, and descriptive statements that discuss the ability to demonstrate and apply information follow each objective statement of the ICTS Technology Education Test. A total score of 240 or higher is needed to pass the test. A report is mailed to each test taker four weeks following the exam. It includes a score for each subarea and a total score.
