The ICTS Social Science: Political Science Test is what the Illinois State Board of Education uses to certify social science teachers who specialize in political science. The test contains information specific to political science as well as the social sciences in general. It is a criterion-referenced, objective-based test of 125 multiple-choice questions. There are four chief subareas in the ICTS Social Science: Political Science Test: Social Science Foundations; History Common Core; Political Science Concepts and Thought, Comparative Government, and International Relations; and United States and Illinois Government.
The subareas of the ICTS Social Science: Political Science Test are divided into 18 broad objective statements. The objective statements include descriptive statements that measure the ability to analyze and apply the content. The total score needed to pass is 240 or above. Each test taker is notified through the mail four weeks after the exam date. The score report shows a score for each subarea as well as the total score.
