Social science teachers who specialize in history in the state of Illinois need to pass the ICTS Social Science: History Test in order to be certified. The test includes basic information about social sciences and specific content related to history. It is a standardized, criterion-referenced, objective-based test of 125 multiple-choice questions. The ICTS Social Science: History Test focuses on four subareas: Social Science Foundations; History Common Core; Historical Concepts and World History; and United States and Illinois History.
The subareas of the ICTS Social Science: History Test consist of 18 general objective statements. The objective statements include more specialized specific statements that gauge the ability to apply the information. Each subarea of the test is scored. A total score of 240 or above is needed to pass the ICTS Social Science: History Test. Reports are mailed four weeks after the test date and include the total score and a score for each subarea.
