The Illinois Content Area Standards for Educators guidelines are included in the ICTS Science: Earth and Space Science Test, which is used to certify science teachers. It is a standardized, criterion-referenced, objective-based test with 125 multiple-choice questions. A scientific calculator is provided at the testing facility. The exam comprises six subareas: Science and Technology; Life Science; Physical Science; Earth Systems and the Universe; the Earth and Atmosphere; and Astronomy.
Passing the ICTS Science: Earth and Space Science Test requires a total score of 240 or above. There are 25 objective statements that cover basic science information, along with specific descriptive statements designed to show the test taker's ability to evaluate and use the information. Four weeks after the test date, scores are sent out. The score report includes the total score as well as a score for each subarea of the ICTS Science: Earth and Space Science Test.
