The ICTS Science: Chemistry Test is used by the Illinois State Board of Education to certify chemistry teachers. The exam is a criterion-referenced, objective-based test of 125 multiple-choice questions, based on the guidelines of the Content Area Standards for Educators. Scientific calculators are provided at the testing facility for this and all science tests. There are six subareas within the ICTS Science: Chemistry Test: Science and Technology; Life Science; Physical Science; Earth Systems and the Universe; Matter, Structure, and Practical Knowledge; and Stoichiometry and Chemical Reactions.
A total score of 240 or higher is required to pass the ICTS Science: Chemistry Test. The six subareas are divided into 29 objectives. The objectives are basic information on the subject, but they all include more detailed descriptive statements. The exam requires the test taker to demonstrate the objectives and skills in the descriptive statements. Scores for the ICTS Science: Chemistry Test are sent four weeks after the test.
